Very good! Osteoblasts build new bone. They are primary to the bone formation process (also called osteogenesis). Bone formation begins during prenatal development and persists throughout adulthood. During periods of significant skeletal growth (i.e., teenagers), bone formation (building new bone) is the predominant metabolic activity that supports the accrual of bone tissue.
To reinforce this in your mind, click once more on the interactive SMART Board to see a short animation of the bone formation process.
