Now that you know about statin medications and how they are classified, how do you know which statins to prescribe to your patients?

The graphic to your right contains a simple decision tree that enables you to match a patient subgroup to a statin intensity level. Note that each major decision juncture pertains to 1 of the 4 patient subgroups that should receive statin therapy (e.g., has clinical ASCVD). You learned about these groups earlier from Dr. Wright. By following the decision tree, you can effectively apply the ACC/AHA guidelines pertaining to statin therapy.
